Hello everybody,

This is Clémence, the French PR intern with The Sankofa Center.  Today I am going to write about another aspect of what the Sankofa Center does: the trade shows.SFIGF 214 PPG COVER

First, let me give you a brief definition. A trade show is “an exhibition organized so that companies in a specific industry can showcase and demonstrate their latest products, service, study activities of rivals and examine recent market trends and opportunities”.

So trade shows are not opened to the public. They are business exhibitions where only retailers, buyers and press people can attend. But as the PR Intern of The Sankofa Center I had the opportunity to be there with Ronnie, the director of The Sankofa Center. Our goal was to meet new customers to help the organization keep going, but also old ones who have been supporting us for a long time by ordering our products, like Julie.DSCN4931lg

Ronnie and Julie

Julie is the owner of Kindred Fair Trade Handcrafts, located in Santa Rosa. She has been supporting us for three years by buying our products. So thank you Julie for your support ! If you happen to be in Santa Rosa, please visit her store.

Now regarding the trade show itself, it takes place in a huge hall, where hundreds of exhibitors are located according to their category. We were in the Fair Trade World Style section. The San Francisco International Gift Fair  was my first trade show, and it was very interesting for me to meet all these attendees. They told me about their experience of trade shows and the way that trade shows work.  Our booth was very bright, our colours really catched people’s attention.clemenceandronnielg

Ronnie and I in The Sankofa Center’s booth

Here is a picture of Ronnie and I in our booth. I told you it was colourful ! Also, I was wearing one of the Vintage skirts that Ronnie designed, and people really liked it. My outfit was quite simple, but I think that the colourful skirt, worn high waisted made the whole difference. What do you think ? You like this outfit ? This skirt, and many other items are available, so if you want to support us, you just need to visit our online boutique !

To end this article I will say that this trade show was a success for the Sankofa Center and a great experience for me, as a PR intern. To interact with so many attendees showed me another aspect of my internship in California. So thank you to all buyers who stopped by and talked.
