Akwaaba! (Welcome!)

Ghana is a small country on the coast of West Africa, bordering Côte d’Ivoire to the west, Burkina Faso to the north, Togo to the east, and the Atlantic Ocean to the south. Accra is the capital and largest city, maintaining a population of nearly 22 million people. Ghana is the ideal travel destination for anyone wanting to experience the beauty of Africa. Ghana is rated one of the safest countries in Africa due to the peaceful nature of the people, stable political climate, and acceptance of international travelers. We encourage volunteers to take advantage of their stay to experience the cultural and natural wonders of Ghana.

World heritage sites Cape Coast Castle and Elimina Castle are located a few hours from Accra. These forts were constructed by colonial powers (including the Portuguese, Dutch, Swedes and eventually the British) and used to hold millions of Africans from West Africa prior to being transported to the Caribbean and the Americas as slaves.

Kakum National Park is home to one of West Africa’s largest tree top canopy walks. This is a must see for everyone visiting Ghana to enjoy this scenic walk high above the tropical rainforest.

Bars and Nightlife minutes away by taxi hosts a vibrant and extremely diverse party scene. Accra is shaping to be a true international city with music, bars, restaurants and dance halls to match just about anyone’s taste. Ranging from traditionally African, Indie, to worldly, you will find your ideal night of fun.

Beaches in Ghana range from lively bustling entertainment-filled beaches such as Labadi Beach to low-key spots such as Kokrobite; home to popular weekend reprieves such as Big Milly’s Backyard and The Sankofa Center Villa: a Fair Trade & Health Empowerment Zone, our upcoming beachside base. So Relax!
