Akwaaba! (Welcome!)
Ghana is a small country on the coast of West Africa, bordering Côte d’Ivoire to the west, Burkina Faso to the north, Togo to the east, and the Atlantic Ocean to the south. Accra is the capital and largest city, maintaining a population of nearly 22 million people. Ghana is the ideal travel destination for anyone wanting to experience the beauty of Africa. Ghana is rated one of the safest countries in Africa due to the peaceful nature of the people, stable political climate, and acceptance of international travelers. We encourage volunteers to take advantage of their stay to experience the cultural and natural wonders of Ghana.
World heritage sites Cape Coast Castle and Elimina Castle are located a few hours from Accra. These “slave castles” held by colonial powers (including the Portuguese, Dutch, Swedes and eventually the British) were used to hold millions of Africans from West Africa prior to being transported to the Caribbean and the Americas as slaves.
